Lowland Leader Award – a new qualification for leading walking groups
Suitable for Primary and Secondary teachers, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award leaders, Youth Workers and anyone with an interest in leading groups on footpaths, trails and lowland countryside, the Lowland Leader Award is the newest nationally recognised qualification from Mountain Training.
Mountain Training have a long history of high quality awards which have raised the competency of those leading and looking after groups out on the hills and mountains of the UK. This background ensures that although the Lowland Leader Award is entry-level in terms of terrain, it will thoroughly equip candidates with all the skills required to safely lead groups in the majority of the rest of our countryside and woodland. The course covers route planning, basic map work, equipment, dealing with hazards, leadership and group management, environmental and access awareness. Participants must firstly register with Mountain Training and then complete a 2-day Training Course, followed by a 2-day Assessment Course to gain the qualification.
